Hybrid Solar Systems

 

Off-Grid/Hybrid systems are a combination between an off-grid system with batteries, which can also take additional power inputs like:

  • Generators Power

  • Wind turbines

  • Some Hybrid-Solar models (as depicted above) can also export electricity into the grid, like Grid-Tied-Inverters do. 

If an alternative power source is available during after-hours to supplement the solar power (available only during day-time), the number of batteries and PV panels can be reduced substantially, making such a system much more affordable than an Off-Grid solar system. Due to the battery bank, it will however always be more expensive than a Grid-Tied solution.

 

 

Backup System (Axpert) - To sustain critical appliances during power failures

 

Our 1 - 5KW Axpert Power backup Hybrid Systems are designed as a power source that maintains AC power to the load from multiple power inputs. The batteries of the system is kept charged from any available power source and will switch over to battery when there is no other power source available.

 

It is therefore similar to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) where the batteries are only used if necessary.

 

Inverter

  • Since it is a hybrid system, it can make use of either grid power or a generator to charge the batteries, with an option to add PV panels at a later stage to charge the batteries during extended power failures.

  • Note that it is not designed to export power back in to the grid, thus will ANY excess/unused power generated by the PV panels go to waste. (same as with off-grid systems)

  • Due to the systems intended application as a power backup system, it is equipped with a standard solar charge-controller  purely to sustain power when all other power sources have failed.

  • If no other source, other than the PV panels are available to keep the batteries charged, the the Axpert MKS Plus Off-Grid System should be used which is equipped with a large battery charger to maintain the battery voltages on a 24/7/365 basis.

Batteries

  • It is also important to note that this system has batteries which are being used during power failures.

  • Disadvantages associated with batteries are therefore applicable to this system, although the batteries are used only occasionally and will therefore last considerably longer than those used on a 24/7/365 basis like the off-grid systems.

Grid-Tied Backup System (Infinisolar) - To sustain critical appliances during power failures + save on electrical bill.

 

Our InfiniSol HybridGrid-Tied System 2 - 5KW backup Hybrid Systems are designed as a power source that maintains AC power to the load from multiple power inputs. The batteries of the system is kept charged from any available power source and will switch over to battery when there is no other power source available.

 

It is therefore similar to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) where the batteries are only used if necessary.

  • Since it is a hybrid system, it can make use of either grid power or a generator to charge the batteries, with an option to add PV panels at a later stage to charge the batteries during extended power failures PLUS reduce your electrical bill.

  • Note that it is designed to export power back in to the grid, thus will NO excess/unused power generated by the PV panels go to waste but will be available for use when the demand exceeds the inverters capacity.

  • Due to the systems intended application as a power generation and backup system, it is not to be considered or to be used as an off-grid solar system where the inverter is working indefinitely (24/7/365).

  • It is also important to note that this system has batteries which are being used during power failures. Disadvantages associated with batteries are therefore applicable to this system, although the batteries are used only occasionally and will therefore last considerably longer than those used on a 24/7/365 basis like the off-grid systems.
